WaterJAM 2026: Good to Be Back Among Our People
There is a version of this industry that lives on spec sheets and duty points. And then there is the version that actually runs it, which is a room full of people who know each other’s names, remember what plant you work at, and ask how last year’s project actually turned out.
WaterJAM is that second version, and we were glad to be back in it this year.
Same Show, Familiar Faces
WaterJAM is the joint annual meeting of the Virginia Water Environment Association and the Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association, and it is one of the events we build our year around. This year’s show ran September 14 through 17 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center under the theme Built for Water, and once again it delivered exactly what it always does. A packed exhibit hall, a full technical program, and hallway conversations that end up mattering as much as anything on the agenda.
We have been coming to WaterJAM for years, and there is something worth saying about a show you keep going back to. It stops being about the booth traffic count and starts being about the people. Operators we have known for a decade. Engineers who call us mid design to talk through a duty point before it ever becomes a spec. Utility staff who remember exactly which pump gave them trouble two summers ago and want to tell us how the fix held up.
What We Actually Get Out of It
Every year we walk away with new contacts and a stack of business cards, and that part matters. But the bigger value is quieter than that.
It is running into a plant manager from a system we have worked with since before some of their current staff started, and hearing how things have changed on their end. It is meeting a newer operator who is still learning the equipment and walking away with a name and a number to call the next time something in the pump room does not sound right. It is comparing notes with engineers and fellow distributors about what is actually happening in the field this year, not just what is on a spec sheet.
That is the real value of a show like this. Municipal water and wastewater is a small world in Virginia, and the relationships built in a convention center hallway are the same ones that get a plant back online faster when a pump fails on a Friday afternoon.
Why We Keep Showing Up
Wood Equipment Company has been serving industrial, commercial, and municipal customers across Virginia and Maryland since 1945, and a lot of that history is built on shows exactly like this one. We do not think of WaterJAM as a marketing line item. We think of it as the one week a year where the whole Virginia water community is in the same building, and we would rather be in that building than not.
