Investing in Technical Expertise: Wood Equipment Hosts Two-Day NORD DRIVESYSTEMS Training

At Wood Equipment Company, we believe the best solutions start with a deep technical understanding of the equipment we design, sell, service, and support. That’s why we recently hosted NORD DRIVE SYSTEMS at our facility for a two‑day, in‑depth technical training focused on industrial drive systems.
This hands-on training brought our team together with NORD experts to strengthen our knowledge of gearmotors, gearboxes, drives, and real‑world application selection—skills that directly translate into better outcomes for our customers across Virginia.

Day One: Fundamentals That Matter in the Field
The first day focused on building a strong foundation—understanding not just what equipment does, but why it performs the way it does.
Training topics included:
  • Service factors and load considerations—critical to selecting equipment that lasts in demanding industrial environments
  • Gearbox fundamentals, covering design, performance, and common application challenges
  • Inverters and drive controls, with an emphasis on proper configuration and operation
  • myNORD training, providing tools for configuration, selection, and documentation
By reviewing these fundamentals, our team sharpened its ability to identify potential issues early, properly specify drive systems, and support customers throughout the life of their equipment.

Day Two: Products, Applications, and Hands-On Service
Day two moved deeper into NORD’s product families and real‑world scenarios our team encounters every day.
Sessions included:
  • Overview of NORD gearmotor solutions, including inline, bevel, parallel shaft, and worm designs
  • MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units, supporting high‑torque and heavy‑duty applications
  • A hands‑on service workshop focused on inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Crossover and interchange discussions, helping streamline replacements and retrofits
  • Application identification and selection, reinforcing best practices for matching the right solution to the job
These sessions reinforced the importance of aligning mechanical design, loads, environment, and controls—especially in industries where uptime and reliability are non‑negotiable.

Why Ongoing Training Matters to Our Customers
Industrial equipment doesn’t fail on paper—it fails in the field. Continuous training ensures our team can:
  • Recommend equipment that fits the application, not just the catalog
  • Reduce installation and startup issues
  • Shorten troubleshooting and service response times
  • Support long‑term reliability and total cost of ownership
By investing in technical education, we’re equipping our team to deliver accurate designs, smarter retrofits, and dependable service support.

Built on Collaboration
We’d like to thank the NORD DRIVESYSTEMS team for leading an informative and practical training, including Anthony McNally, Kim Sprecher, Mark Arisman, and Amanda Clark. Their expertise and willingness to share real‑world experience made this training especially valuable.
